LCO Completes Successful Weekend at the Fla. Lacrosse Festival

The LCO High School A team faced off against a solid group of competition this past weekend in Kissimmee at Austin Tindall Park.  The inaugural Florida Lacrosse Festival saw teams from Atlanta, South Florida, Orlando as well as the Brogden Cup representatives from the USA and Canada.

In the first game of the day on Friday, the LCO squared off against the Canadian Brogden Cup Representatives from Ontario.  The game saw the hometown boys rally from a 3 goal 2nd half deficit to tie the game with 8 seconds remaining in regulation when Hagerty's Eric Marshal found Tampa Jesuit midfielder Bryan Mondor for the equalizer.   The first overtime period saw a lot of close calls, but ultimately no blood on either side.  Canada faceoff man Tealan Celentario took the opening draw of the 2nd overtime straight to the cage for the game winner.  Final score Canada 9 LCO 8 in double OT.

In other Friday games, Team 22 from Boca Raton defeated LB3 from Atlanta by a score of 5-4 and lost to the USA Brogden Cup Representative Rochester 13-4.  The nightcap featured game 1 of the Brogden cup with USA cruising to a 23-5 victory over Canada.

Saturday's action saw the LCO defeat in-state foe Team 22  11-5 and fall to LB3 13-5.   In other games, Team 22  lost to Canada 12-6. LB3 played Rochester tough but ultimately lost 12-8.

Saturday night a re-energized Canadian team came out with a new game plan against the USA-Rochester side for Game 2 of the Brogden Cup.  The game was tied at 4 deep in the 3rd quarter but the Americans would pull away for an 8-4 victory, securing the Brogden Cup Championship (http://www.nationallacrosseclassic.com/news/usa-sweeps-canada-to-win-bro).

Sunday morning LB3 once again topped LCO this time by a score of 7-2.  The weekend featured high level lacrosse, mostly great weather and set a great precedent for the future.
